NICTD acquired the new car that had a modern VVVF inverter technology, enforced crashworthiness and disable-friendly wheel chair space as the evolution of comfort and safety from the previous car delivered in 1992. It adopts a number of U.S. made parts and took final assembly in the U.S. as Buy America act also applied.
